acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 20th instant

Yo.

31590/1911, respecting the extradition of Chinese from

Hong Kong.

In view of the fact that the Governor does not request

to be furnished with any fresh instructions, and his

despatch is merely a reply to the views of His Majesty's

Government already conveyed to him, it does not appear to

Sir Edward that any useful purpose would be served by

prolonging the correspondence with His Excellency, but as

regards this, Mr. Secretary Harcourt will no doubt decide

whether it is necessary to send any further reply to Sir F.

Lugard. So far as this Department is concerned Sir E.

Grey has nothing to add to the views set out in the letter

from this Office of June 16th last. I am to add that a

copy of the correspondence is being forwarded to lis
